Gardai Arrest Two in Major €229,000 Cannabis Seizure

Two individuals were arrested in County Waterford following a significant seizure of suspected cannabis and THC products valued at approximately €229,000. The arrests occurred during a coordinated operation on March 9, 2024, involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Waterford County Drugs Unit, and the Revenue Commissioners.

The operation took place in Lismore, where Revenue Customs officers discovered around 10.35 kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €207,000. Following this initial search, An Garda Síochána conducted a further investigation that led to the identification of additional THC products, which are estimated to be worth €22,000.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were taken into custody in connection with the investigation. They are currently being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in County Waterford.

The substances seized during the operation have been dispatched to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Authorities have indicated that investigations into this matter are ongoing, and further updates may follow as new information becomes available.
