Hoxton Hotel Urges Mediation to Save Yamamori Izakaya Amid Legal Battle
UPDATE: The Hoxton Hotel is making urgent calls for mediation to prevent the closure of Yamamori Izakaya as a legal dispute continues. The High Court has adjourned proceedings between Trinity Hospitality, the leaseholder of The Hoxton, and Yamamori Izakaya, originally scheduled for March 5, 2024. This situation is escalating quickly, with potential implications for Dublin’s vibrant nightlife scene.
Trinity Hospitality claims it has received numerous complaints from hotel guests regarding noise levels from late-night DJ events at Yamamori Izakaya, which have reportedly moved from the basement to the ground-floor restaurant. This shift has resulted in the hotel being unable to utilize approximately 25% of its rooms. The hotel argues that this legal action is essential to address noise transfer rather than shut down the venue.
In a public statement released following the court’s adjournment, The Hoxton emphasized, “We do not want to see Yamamori Izakaya close, nor do we want to see nightlife venues curtailed.” The hotel describes Yamamori as a vital part of Dublin’s cultural fabric, contributing significantly to the city’s nightlife.
The Hoxton’s statement also highlighted its historical commitment to supporting local businesses and creative communities. “Our plan for Dublin is no different. It is central to who we are,” it added. The hotel expressed hope that Trinity Hospitality and Yamamori Izakaya could collaborate on solutions that would benefit both parties.
Trinity Hospitality has indicated that joint acoustic testing has taken place, aiming to foster a cooperative approach moving forward. The leaseholder is even considering financial contributions toward soundproofing measures at Yamamori Izakaya to alleviate the noise issues.
Protests have erupted outside Yamamori Izakaya in response to this legal action, demonstrating the community’s concern for the potential impact on local nightlife. The Hoxton reiterated its support for a solution that allows nightlife, hospitality, and community to thrive together.
As developments unfold, the nightlife community is watching closely. The outcome of the mediation efforts could determine not only the fate of Yamamori Izakaya but also the broader landscape of Dublin’s vibrant cultural scene.
Stay tuned for updates as this urgent situation progresses.
