Israeli Settlers Injure Five Palestinians in West Bank Attack
UPDATE: In a shocking escalation of violence, Israeli settlers injured five Palestinians in a brutal attack in the occupied West Bank today, including two who suffered serious gunshot wounds. The incident occurred in the area of Rashayda, near the village of Kisan, just east of Bethlehem, prompting outrage and urgent calls for accountability.
According to local authorities and the Palestinian news agency WAFA, a group of settlers opened fire, using live ammunition during the confrontation. Musa Abayat, mayor of the area, reported that two individuals were hospitalized due to gunshot injuries, while three others were assaulted with sharp objects and stones. “The settlers also stole 100 sheep,” Abayat stated, condemning the incident as part of the “daily attacks” faced by residents in this region.
The Israeli military has confirmed a “violent confrontation” took place, involving Israeli civilians who fired towards Palestinians. They reported that one Israeli civilian was injured and subsequently evacuated for medical treatment. In total, two Palestinians were also evacuated by the Red Crescent for care.
In a swift response, Israeli police detained two Israeli civilians involved in the shooting, along with three Palestinians. This incident underscores a concerning trend, as deadly settler attacks have surged in recent days, with at least five Palestinians killed since the beginning of March, according to Palestinian authorities and the United Nations.
The ongoing violence highlights a grim reality in the West Bank, where at least 1,045 Palestinians have been killed, many identified as militants but including numerous civilians, since the onset of the Gaza conflict, as reported by an AFP tally based on figures from the Palestinian health ministry. Meanwhile, official Israeli sources indicate that at least 45 Israelis, both soldiers and civilians, have lost their lives during Palestinian attacks or in the course of Israeli military operations.
This latest incident has raised alarm among humanitarian organizations and local leaders, who are calling for immediate intervention to protect vulnerable communities. As tensions in the region escalate, all eyes are on the Israeli government and military response, with fears of further violence looming large.
The international community is urged to address these alarming developments, as the situation remains highly volatile. Further updates are expected as authorities continue their investigations and the humanitarian impact unfolds.
