Kilkenny Bus Service Faces Backlash Over Major Delays
URGENT UPDATE: The bus service in Kilkenny is under fire as Deputy Mayor Cllr Maria Dollard decries significant delays and a lack of accountability from Transport for Ireland. Frustrated commuters are calling the service a “lottery,” with buses often failing to arrive on time.
In a statement to Kilkenny Live, Cllr Dollard highlighted that passengers frequently wait for over an hour for the KK1 service, which is supposed to operate every 30 minutes. “This issue has been ongoing for far too long,” she stated, emphasizing the degradation of service affecting everyday lives in Kilkenny.
Commuters have reported waiting in the rain and cold, with some buses arriving up to 50 minutes late. “Ordinary Kilkenny people have taken to using the bus with enthusiasm, but we can’t solve congestion in the city at peak times until we have a reliable public transport service,” Cllr Dollard added.
Many users have experienced consistent problems, including buses skipping stops and poor communication about delays. Cllr Dollard pointed out that attempts to reach the depot for complaints often go unanswered. “The bus drivers are very courteous,” she noted, “but passengers deserve better communication about service reliability.”
The Deputy Mayor is pushing for a review of the KK1 service and has formally contacted the National Transport Authority (NTA) to address these complaints. “The problems seem to have started since the new timetable was introduced,” she explained, adding that parents are particularly distressed as they try to avoid driving their children to school.
Local residents are now demanding immediate action from Transport for Ireland to rectify these issues. “It’s not good enough and shows how little commitment there is at government level to public transport improvements,” Cllr Dollard stated.
Residents are sharing their experiences on social media, amplifying the urgency of the situation. Kilkenny Live has reached out to the NTA for an official comment, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in public transport services.
As this situation develops, the community is left wondering how long they will have to endure this unreliable service. What happens next could determine the future of public transport in Kilkenny.
Stay tuned for updates on this critical issue affecting the daily lives of Kilkenny residents.
