Letterkenny Man, 22, Jailed Again for Disturbing Offences
UPDATE: A 22-year-old man from Letterkenny has been jailed again just days after his release, following a series of troubling offences. Josh Cullen was remanded back to custody after being charged with multiple violations committed on December 16, 2025, the day after a court appearance.
Cullen, who resides at Avondale House, St Eunan’s Court, was sentenced to a three-month prison term with one month suspended for bizarre actions that alarmed the community. During a video link appearance from Castlerea Prison, he faced new charges related to incidents at Letterkenny University Hospital, raising serious concerns about his behavior.
On December 16, Cullen was charged with trespassing in a hospital staff supply room, a violation of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act. He also faced charges for using threatening and abusive language and for criminal damage to a fire alarm. These offences occurred just hours after his prior court ruling, prompting alarm from officials.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This was a similar offence the day after he was dealt with in court.” His solicitor, Frank Dorrian, noted an “impulsive irrationality” in Cullen’s actions, claiming he was attempting to protest inadequate medical care from the Health Service Executive (HSE).
Judge Emile Daly highlighted the harm caused to others by Cullen’s actions, indicating that such behaviour cannot be overlooked. Dorrian further noted a “disconnect between cause and effect,” pleading for understanding as they prepared for Cullen’s next court appearance.
Cullen is set to return to Letterkenny District Court on January 5, 2026, but Dorrian warned that a bail application would not be successful due to the nature of the offences. “We will do everything we can,” he told Cullen, stressing the importance of refraining from further misconduct.
As this situation develops, it raises pressing questions about mental health support and community safety in Donegal. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as authorities continue to address these alarming incidents.
Stay tuned for further updates on this urgent matter.
