Limerick Operation Targets Organised Crime and Drug Trafficking

The Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) is currently leading an operation in Limerick aimed at dismantling organised crime linked to drug trafficking and related criminal activities. The initiative, known as Operation Tara, commenced earlier this week and involves extensive collaboration with local garda and drugs units. This operation is part of a broader, ongoing national investigation into serious drug-related intimidation incidents attributed to a specific criminal organisation.

On Monday, GNDOCB personnel executed a series of searches across 16 residential and business premises. The operation resulted in the arrest of three men and one woman under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 as amended. These individuals were subsequently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at various garda stations throughout the country.

As the operation unfolded, authorities seized 12 vehicles, uncovering concealed items in several of them. Additionally, officers recovered €32,668 in cash, along with 2kg of cannabis and a collection of electronic devices, including phones and laptops.

The arrested individuals have since been released without charge, pending further investigations and the submission of a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions. This case highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crime and protect communities from the impacts of organised criminal activity.
