NCSE Faces Backlash and Issues Apology Over SNA Review

The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) has issued an apology following significant public concern regarding its recent review of Special Needs Assistants (SNA) allocation. The government took the step of pausing the review and reallocation process for the upcoming academic year, which led to a heightened scrutiny of the NCSE’s decisions.

In a session with the Oireachtas Education and Youth Committee on March 5, 2026, John Kearney, CEO of the NCSE, acknowledged the feedback received from various stakeholders.
