Rising Star Daithí Ó hAragáin Brings Acclaimed Drama to Letterkenny
UPDATE: Rising star Daithí Ó hAragáin, just 11 years old, is set to ignite the stage at An Grianán Theatre on February 20, 2026, as he brings the acclaimed historical drama The Unfinished Broadside to his hometown of Letterkenny. Following an electrifying performance at the Millennium Forum in Derry, where audiences were captivated by the show’s emotional depth, tickets for the Letterkenny performance are already flying off the shelves.
This dynamic theatrical production, presented by Sollus Cultural Promotions in partnership with Inishowen Development Partnership, explores a pivotal yet underrepresented chapter in the shared history of Ireland, Scotland, and the United States. Daithí takes center stage as young John Dunlap, the Irish printer responsible for producing the first printed copies of the Declaration of Independence.
The response to The Unfinished Broadside has been overwhelming, with audience members in Derry hailing it as “a gripping and moving piece of theatre” that vividly brings history to life. One attendee described it as “a powerful celebration of courage, identity, and migration that resonates deeply today.” The production features a cast of 40 local talents, including actors, dancers, and musicians, and has been praised for its ambitious storytelling and emotional impact.
With its timely debut marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the production seamlessly blends drama, original music, and choreography. Written by Jonathan Burges and choreographed by Georgina Kee McCarter, the show also features original compositions by Tracey McRory, Richard Laird, and Paddy Danagher.
Tracey McRory, Development Officer with the Inishowen Development Partnership, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “The Unfinished Broadside blends history, intrigue, and time-travel storytelling to vividly bring the birth of a nation to life.” She emphasized the importance of involving local talent, particularly highlighting Daithí’s rising reputation as one of the region’s most promising young performers.
Daithí, who trains at Encore Performing Arts Academy in Letterkenny, shared his excitement about participating in this impactful production during such a significant anniversary year. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to help share this powerful story with audiences,” he said.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming show in Letterkenny, audiences are urged to secure their tickets quickly through the An Grianán Theatre website: Tickets available here. Don’t miss your chance to experience this extraordinary performance that promises to resonate with viewers long after the curtain falls.
