SSE Airtricity League Kicks Off Tomorrow: Key Matches to Watch
BREAKING: The new SSE Airtricity League First Division season is set to launch tomorrow night, February 13, 2026, with crucial matches that could define team trajectories. Finn Harps will kick off their campaign against Athlone Town, who finished last in the division last year. This match is pivotal for both teams as they aim to establish momentum early in the season.
In a strong showing during the off-season, Finn Harps have made significant signings while retaining their standout young players, including Gavin McAteer, Josh Cullen, and Corey Sheridan. All three represented Ireland at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar in November, and their presence is expected to boost the team’s performance.
Meanwhile, the Premier Division has already kicked off, with Derry City and Drogheda United securing victories in their opening matches. Derry City triumphed over Sligo Rovers with a late-game surge, and they will face last year’s First Division champions, Dundalk, at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium tomorrow night.
In an exclusive interview, former Finn Harps captain and current Cockhill Celtic boss Gavin Cullen discussed the significance of this weekend’s fixtures on “The Score” with Mark Gallagher. He emphasized the competitive nature of the league and the importance of each match as teams strive for early points.
Fans and stakeholders are urged to watch these matches closely as the outcomes could set the tone for the rest of the season. With hopes high and stakes rising, the excitement around the SSE Airtricity League is palpable.
Stay tuned for more updates as the season unfolds!
