Urgent Freeze Alert Issued for Limerick, Ice Conditions Expected
URGENT UPDATE: A new Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning has been issued for Limerick, effective from 6 PM today, November 11, 2023, until 11 AM tomorrow morning. Met Éireann has confirmed that this warning affects multiple counties across Munster and beyond, bringing dangerously low temperatures between -2 and -4 degrees Celsius along with severe frost and ice.
The weather service emphasizes that the expected conditions could lead to hazardous travel and outdoor activities. This warning is part of a broader alert that includes counties such as Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow, all facing similar risks.
As temperatures drop, residents are urged to take precautions against the cold. The sharp frost can create icy surfaces, significantly increasing the risk of slips and falls. Met Éireann has also issued a second Status Yellow warning for tomorrow, November 12, which will remain in effect from 6 PM until 11 AM on Monday, November 13, maintaining the same severe conditions.
In addition, a separate Status Yellow snow and ice warning will impact Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Louth, and all of Connacht starting at 6 PM today. This warning too will last until 11 AM tomorrow and will be repeated on Sunday evening into Monday morning.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared as these low temperatures and icy conditions could lead to significant disruptions. Authorities advise limiting travel and ensuring that homes are adequately heated to prevent cold-related illnesses.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops, and make safety your top priority during this severe weather warning.
