Chantalle Wymbs, a Chef de Partie at Harvey’s Point in Donegal, has been awarded the prestigious title of National Employee of the Year by the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF). The announcement came during the IHF’s Annual Conference held in Killarney on March 7, 2024. This award, now in its ninth year, recognizes exceptional contributions from hotel staff across the country.

During the ceremony, Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, presented Wymbs with the accolade. He expressed his admiration for her dedication, stating, “Hearty congratulations Chantalle on this national recognition of your outstanding contribution to the superb offering at Harvey’s Point. Your work ethic and leadership are being celebrated tonight.”

Celebrating Outstanding Contributions to Hospitality

Michael Magner, President of the IHF, praised Wymbs for her warmth and creativity, noting that her passion for enhancing the customer experience sets her apart. “Her innovative approach is truly admirable. Across the country, hotel and guesthouse teams go above and beyond to create memorable experiences for guests,” he remarked.

Wymbs was among twelve finalists recognized for their exceptional service and commitment. Aisling Arnold, Chair of IHF Donegal, commended her as a fantastic ambassador for the hotel sector, highlighting her ability to inspire her team. “Chantalle’s innovation and leadership consistently elevate the guest experience,” she stated, echoing the sentiments of her peers regarding the importance of dedicated individuals in the hospitality industry.

The awards featured nominations from over 170 team members this year, showcasing the high caliber of talent within the sector. Magner emphasized the significance of recognizing these individuals, stating, “The Employee of the Year Award allows us to show our appreciation for the incredible people who bring world-class Irish hospitality to life every single day.”

A Journey of Passion and Creativity

Wymbs’ journey into hospitality was not straightforward. Initially pursuing a degree in art and design, she discovered her passion for cooking and completed a culinary course in Killybegs. Now, after four successful years at Harvey’s Point, she also serves as the hotel’s allergen champion, demonstrating her commitment to both her craft and her guests’ well-being.

Her ambition has driven her to seek opportunities for growth, including asking award-winning chefs if she could stage in their restaurants to further hone her skills. Outside of work, Wymbs enjoys cooking for her family, particularly for her grandmother and young son, reflecting her passion for the culinary arts.
