Sustainable Fashion Pop-Up Event Launches in Carndonagh This Saturday
A new sustainable shopping event is set to take place in Carndonagh this Saturday, November 29. The Shopping Spraoi pop-up will be hosted at the Carndonagh Garden Centre from 12:00 to 15:00, focusing on affordable preloved fashion. This initiative aims to encourage environmentally friendly shopping habits while providing a festive atmosphere for the community.
The event is funded by the ChangeMakers Donegal Seeds of Change Grant through the Inishowen Development Partnership. It collaborates with several organizations including Donegal ETB, Self Help Africa, Trócaire, Concern Worldwide, and is supported by Irish Aid. The goal is to connect local actions in Donegal with broader global efforts to combat the challenges posed by fast fashion and climate change.
Community Engagement and Sustainable Practices
Project Coordinator Caoimhe Doherty emphasized the importance of linking local community initiatives with global sustainability goals. “Shopping Spraoi helps people make small, practical changes that reduce waste. It shows that sustainable fashion is easy, affordable, and fun,” she stated. The pop-up is designed to provide a practical way for families and young people to refresh their wardrobes without incurring significant costs.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of activities including opportunities to swap clothes, attend repair and upcycling demonstrations, and browse high-quality preloved clothing. The event promotes community learning and engagement, encouraging attendees to consider sustainable options as they prepare for the holiday season.
Supporting a Circular Economy
The sustainable fashion pop-up is part of the Spraoi agus Spórt initiative, which operates a circular economy hub known as Síoraí. This hub aims to reduce waste by extending the life of materials and products through sharing, reusing, and recycling. It also includes Síoraí Clothing and Accessories and Síoraí Home, which specializes in revived preloved furniture.
The pop-up event provides an excellent opportunity for community members to engage with sustainable practices while addressing the pressing issue of waste in the fashion industry. Everyone is invited to participate, whether they are swapping, shopping, or exploring sustainable options for the first time.
For additional information, visit www.spraoiagussport.ie/siorai or follow Spraoi agus Spórt on social media platforms. This event represents a positive step towards a more sustainable future, inviting the community to play an active role in reducing waste and fostering awareness around environmental issues.
