Renowned Musicians Unite for Maeve Joyce Memorial Concert
A special concert honoring the legacy of Maeve Joyce will take place on January 17, 2025, at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. This event marks the first anniversary of her passing, bringing together several celebrated artists from the Irish traditional music scene. The concert, organized by her husband Mick Crehan, aims not only to commemorate Maeve’s life but also to raise funds for the Galway Hospice, which provided exceptional care during her final months.
Maeve Joyce, a notable figure in Galway’s cultural landscape, led the renowned Crane Bar in Galway City’s West End for over two decades. Her dedication to the community extended beyond her work in music; she also spent over 20 years with Galway Chamber, eventually serving as its General Manager until her cancer diagnosis.
A Legacy of Strength and Community Support
Maeve’s battle with cancer lasted six and a half years, during which she maintained an inspiring spirit and resilience. Mick Crehan recalls the extraordinary support provided by Galway Hospice, stating, “You hear about what they do for people, but you don’t actually realize how extraordinary they are until you experience it yourself.” The hospice allowed Maeve to remain at home, offering vital care not only to her but also emotional support to her family.
Maeve passed away last January, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to resonate with her loved ones, including her daughter Sarah and grandson Tommie. Mick expresses that the love and fondness shared for Maeve serve as a significant source of comfort during this difficult time.

The lineup for the Maeve Joyce Memorial Concert features an impressive array of musicians, underscoring the high regard in which Maeve was held. Performers include renowned artists such as Frankie Gavin, Máirtín Ó Connor, Cathal Hayden, and Matt Molloy, along with the Crane House Band. This gathering of talent highlights the impact Maeve had on the music community and her enduring legacy.
A limited number of tickets for the concert are available for purchase on Eventbrite. Those unable to attend are encouraged to support the cause by donating to the Galway Hospice, which continues to provide invaluable services to the community.
