Urgent Update: Edward Gallagher’s Child Abuse Case Delayed Again
UPDATE: The case against Edward Gallagher, a 58-year-old priest from Orchard Park, Lifford, has hit another delay as critical reports remain outstanding. Gallagher faces serious charges, including attempted sexual communication with a child and multiple counts of possessing indecent images.
In a tense hearing today, prosecutors revealed that a vital report categorizing the images has yet to be submitted, pushing the case’s timeline further back. Gallagher’s defense solicitor, Derwin Harvey, expressed frustration over the ongoing delays, stating, “Each review into the case seems to get longer and longer.” He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that Gallagher has been in custody since April 2025.
The court has adjourned the case until March 26, 2026, leaving Gallagher in custody as the legal process continues. This recent development has raised questions about the judicial system’s efficiency in handling such sensitive matters.
Gallagher faces serious allegations stemming from incidents occurring between April 2 and April 17, 2025. He has been charged with inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch sexual acts. The ongoing delays not only affect the legal proceedings but also the emotional toll on victims and their families awaiting justice.
As the community watches closely, the next court date will be critical in determining the future of this case. Authorities are urged to expedite the review process to ensure a timely resolution.
