Irish Shoppers Warned as Popular Toys and Gear Recalled
Warnings have been issued to Irish shoppers following a series of product recalls affecting popular children’s toys, baby products, and sporting equipment. The recalls, prompted by health and safety concerns, are part of ongoing inspections by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), which assesses various items sold in Ireland for compliance with safety standards.
The CCPC conducts regular, often unannounced inspections to ensure consumer products meet required safety criteria. When a product fails these standards, the CCPC takes necessary action to remove it from the market, prioritizing consumer safety.
Specific Products Under Recall
One significant recall involves the 4 Pack Fidget Spinners for Babies, sold on Amazon. The CCPC identified a choking hazard due to protruding parts, which pose a risk to small children. The brand is DXPETA, and while the batch number is unknown, the bar code is X002BY8S1T and the ASIN is B0FCSK6WLR. Approximately five units are believed to be affected in the Republic of Ireland. A spokesperson from the CCPC advised consumers: “If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.”
Another recall announced by Decathlon affects its Simond Probe Ski Touring products, specifically the 240 cm and 280 cm models. These items were recalled due to a serious risk of injury stemming from a defect that could prevent the probe from deploying during snow rescue operations. The affected products were sold from September 1, 2025, to January 29, 2026, and customers are urged to return them for a refund at their nearest Decathlon store.
Toys Contaminated with Asbestos
In a more alarming development, the CCPC issued a warning regarding sand-based toys manufactured by Addo Play Ltd, which may contain asbestos—a known carcinogen. Following a recall by Tesco in the United Kingdom, the CCPC alerted consumers in Ireland about four specific products sold in Tesco stores. The affected items include:
– Out to Impress Sand Art Creations (barcode 5056289422434)
– Out to Impress Creative Candles Craft Set (barcode 5056289428429)
– Paw Patrol Sand Art Pictures (barcode 5056289425770)
– Paw Patrol Bumper Craft Collection (barcode 5056289425800)
Customers who have purchased these toys are advised to cease use immediately and keep children away from any areas where the sand has been used. For any packaged sand, it should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealed securely, labeled clearly, and disposed of according to local waste authority guidelines. Tesco has indicated that customers can request a refund without needing a receipt.
These recalls highlight the importance of consumer vigilance regarding product safety. The CCPC continues to monitor the market and urges shoppers to remain informed about the products they purchase.
For further assistance, consumers can reach out to the respective companies or consult the CCPC for advice on the recalls.
