The Dublin Gospel Choir is celebrating its impressive milestone of 30 years, marking three decades of music and community engagement. Festivities commenced with the Festival of Voice, which kicked off the choir’s anniversary tour. The choir’s musical director, Orla McGowan, joined members on The Anton Savage Show to discuss the significance of this landmark achievement and the busy schedule of performances planned for 2026.

In her conversation, McGowan expressed the choir’s enthusiasm for reaching this notable anniversary. She stated, “We are very excited to be celebrating 30 years.” The choir’s performance schedule includes notable venues such as Glór in Ennis, Wexford Opera House, and St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny. A highlight of the year will be a special concert at St Mary of the Angels Church on April 26, 2026, which commemorates the choir’s very first performance.

McGowan reflected on the rarity of a musical group maintaining its cohesion over such a long period. “Any family that can stay together for 30 years, or any set of friends and performers, is a big achievement,” she noted. She highlighted the enduring nature of the choir, saying, “We’ve reached the golden age where we’re all pretty nice, chill and mellow and we get on great.”

As the Dublin Gospel Choir celebrates this significant anniversary, it also serves as a testament to the strong bonds that have kept its members united through years of music and collaboration. The upcoming performances will not only showcase their musical talent but also celebrate the community spirit that has been a hallmark of the choir since its inception.

The choir’s journey, marked by dedication and passion, continues to resonate within the lives of its members and the broader community, ensuring that their story will remain an integral part of Dublin’s cultural landscape for years to come.
