Supermarket Hours on Christmas Day

Tesco stores will have different opening hours depending on their location and format. Most Tesco Superstores are expected to remain open until midnight leading up to Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, however, all Tesco locations will be CLOSED.

– Christmas Eve: General hours from 07:00 to 19:00
– St Stephen’s Day: Select branches will be open from 10:00 to 18:00
– December 27–30: Regular hours
– New Year’s Eve: Open from 08:00 to 20:00
– New Year’s Day: Select shops open from 10:00 to 18:00

Aldi has standardized opening hours across its nationwide branches. Until Christmas Eve, Aldi stores will operate from 08:00 to 23:00 on December 22 and 23.

– Christmas Eve: Open from 08:00 to 19:00
– Christmas Day: CLOSED
– St Stephen’s Day: CLOSED
– December 27–30: Open from 08:00 to 21:00, with December 28 operating from 09:00 to 21:00

Lidl will also follow similar nationwide hours. All Lidl stores will be CLOSED on Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day, and New Year’s Day.

– Until Christmas Eve: Open from 08:00 to 22:00 from December 20 to 23 (with 09:00 to 22:00 on December 21)
– Christmas Eve: Open from 08:00 to 18:00
– December 27–30: Standard extended hours from 08:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, and 09:00 to 21:00 on December 28
– New Year’s Eve: Open from 08:00 to 18:00
– New Year’s Day: CLOSED

Other Retail Options on Christmas Day

Dunnes Stores will offer varying hours based on location. Many branches are expected to remain open until midnight leading up to Christmas Day. Some stores will even be open for 24 hours on December 22 and 23.

– Christmas Eve: Most locations will close around 18:00
– Christmas Day: CLOSED

For those seeking independent options, SuperValu locations operate under independent ownership, meaning opening hours can differ significantly. All SuperValu shops will be CLOSED on Christmas Day.

On St Stephen’s Day, most SuperValu branches are also expected to remain CLOSED, though a few may open for reduced hours.

For individuals looking for any open establishments on Christmas Day, a café in Galway named Mocha Beans will operate its Claregalway branch from 13:00 to 15:00. Owner Trevor Mangan has stated that the café will provide blankets and hot water bottles after 15:00 for those who may be alone or homeless during the festive period. Other smaller shops, including gas stations and convenience stores, may have varying hours, so it is advisable to check local listings.
