Neg8 Carbon Partners with Prochem Engineering to Advance DAC Technology
Neg8 Carbon has entered into a significant partnership with Prochem Engineering to advance carbon capture technology in Ireland. On January 16, 2026, the two organizations announced their agreement to define the project specifications for the nation’s first full-scale direct air capture (DAC) system. This collaboration is set to pave the way for innovative solutions in the fight against climate change.
The inaugural module of Neg8 Carbon’s DAC technology will be constructed at the company’s headquarters in Waterford. This system aims to attract and capture up to 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, showcasing the practical capabilities of Neg8 Carbon’s novel electrostatic technology. The initiative reflects a growing commitment to help industries meet net-zero emissions targets while addressing global climate challenges.
Neg8 Carbon specializes in developing cutting-edge electrostatic DAC technology that effectively captures carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. The process involves drawing air through a specially designed sorbent system that selectively attracts carbon dioxide molecules. Once captured, these molecules can be either stored underground permanently or converted into climate-neutral products, such as sustainable aviation fuel.
Strategic Objectives and Future Prospects
The partnership with Prochem Engineering positions Neg8 Carbon to enhance the affordability, efficiency, and scalability of its DAC technology. This strategic collaboration is expected to facilitate Neg8 Carbon’s transition into international commercial deployment, broadening the impact of its innovative solutions.
Dr. John Breen, Chief Technology Officer at Neg8 Carbon, emphasized the importance of the project’s first module, stating, “The 50 tonne per annum unit will serve to validate Neg8’s system as a leading engineered carbon capture technology that will support industries and governments in their drive to net-zero and beyond to negative carbon emissions.”
Michael Kent, Director at Prochem Engineering, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shared vision of both organizations. He remarked, “This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of Neg8 Carbon and Prochem Engineering to deliver innovative, sustainable engineering solutions that support meaningful environmental progress and a lower-carbon future.”
As the global community increasingly prioritizes climate action, projects like this one are crucial in developing technologies that can effectively mitigate carbon emissions. The successful implementation of Neg8 Carbon’s DAC system could serve as a model for other regions and industries looking to reduce their environmental impact.
This partnership marks a pivotal moment for Ireland as it positions itself at the forefront of carbon capture technology. By combining expertise and resources, Neg8 Carbon and Prochem Engineering aim to create sustainable engineering solutions that not only address immediate environmental concerns but also contribute to long-term climate goals.
