University of Limerick Invests Millions in Global Talent Recruitment

The University of Limerick (UL) has announced a significant investment aimed at attracting top-tier research talent through a global recruitment initiative named UL Changemakers. This campaign, unveiled on February 9, 2026, is designed to draw exceptional researchers to the region, enhancing UL’s research capabilities and reputation.

UL Changemakers is set to create 35 academic positions across various disciplines. These include social justice, democratic resilience, artificial intelligence, pharmaceutical science and bioprocessing, health services research, sustainable electrical engineering, medicine, quantum computing, software engineering, and several roles within the Kemmy Business School. The initiative reflects UL’s dedication to fostering a high-performance research environment that is both vibrant and inclusive.

Professor Shane Kilcommins, Acting President of the University, emphasized the campaign’s importance in harnessing research for societal benefit. He stated, “UL Changemakers represents a bold and necessary investment in the power of research to shape a better future.” He added that attracting exceptional researchers will deepen UL’s capability to address significant global challenges while enriching the academic community.

Professor Kevin Ryan, Vice President for Research and Innovation, highlighted the qualities sought in potential candidates. “We are looking for researchers who not only excel in their disciplines but who are eager to challenge conventions, push boundaries, inspire innovation, and deliver research that makes a real difference in society,” he remarked.

This recruitment effort aligns with UL’s long-term strategic investment in research excellence as detailed in the Wisdom for Action Research Strategy 2022-2027.
