University of Limerick Launches Multi-Million Euro Talent Initiative

The University of Limerick (UL) has announced a multi-million-euro investment in a global recruitment campaign aimed at attracting top-tier research talent. The initiative, named UL Changemakers, seeks to enhance the university’s research capabilities by offering 35 new academic positions across a variety of disciplines, including social justice, democratic resilience, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical science.

This ambitious recruitment effort is designed to draw exceptional researchers from around the globe who are eager to advance their careers in a dynamic and inclusive research environment. The university is not only focused on expanding its academic staff but also on strengthening its overall research performance to maintain its competitive edge.

Government Support for Research Development

James Lawless, the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, expressed strong support for the initiative. He stated, “I am very encouraged to see the University of Limerick stepping forward with an initiative such as this. The move to launch UL Changemakers is most welcome, and aligns perfectly with the approach that I and my Department have been taking to make Ireland a welcoming and desirable location for top international researchers.”

In his remarks during the campaign launch, acting president Prof Shane Kilcommins articulated the university’s vision. Further emphasizing this commitment, Prof Kevin Ryan, Vice President for Research and Innovation, stated, “We are seeking researchers who not only excel in their disciplines but who are eager to challenge conventions, push boundaries, inspire innovation, and deliver research that makes a real difference in society.” He underscored the necessity of embedding research into the university’s culture as it transitions into a more research-intensive institution.
