University of Limerick Launches Global Recruitment for Research Talent
The University of Limerick (UL) has announced a significant multi-million-euro investment aimed at attracting top-tier research talent from around the globe. This initiative, named UL Changemakers, is designed to enhance the university’s research capabilities and foster a diverse academic environment.
UL Changemakers will create approximately 35 academic positions across various disciplines, including social justice, democratic resilience, artificial intelligence, pharmaceutical science, and bioprocessing. Additional roles will be available within the Kemmy Business School. This recruitment drive seeks to bring in exceptional researchers who are committed to advancing their careers in a dynamic and inclusive setting.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless, expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “I am very encouraged to see the University of Limerick stepping forward with an initiative such as this.” He noted that the program aligns with the government’s goal of making Ireland an attractive destination for international researchers. Lawless emphasized the long-term impact of such programs on the economy and society.
Investment in Research for Future Development
During the campaign launch, acting president Prof Shane Kilcommins highlighted the importance of research in shaping a better future. “At UL, we believe that world-class scholarship does more than advance knowledge; it informs policy, strengthens communities, and delivers meaningful benefits to society,” he stated. The initiative aims to deepen the university’s capacity to tackle global challenges and expand its intellectual reach.
Prof Kevin Ryan, Vice President for Research and Innovation, underscored the university’s focus on recruiting individuals who not only excel in their fields but also challenge conventions and inspire innovation. “We are looking for changemakers,” Ryan said. He added that enhancing research performance will be a defining aspect of UL moving forward, ensuring that the university fosters an environment where research can thrive and contribute to sustainable economic growth in Ireland.
Dick Meaney, a member of the UL Foundation board, expressed pride in launching this ambitious research initiative. He stated, “Supporting initiatives like this is at the heart of the Foundation’s mission.” Meaney affirmed the Foundation’s commitment to securing funding for professorships and PhD scholarships that will support the university’s research efforts for years to come.
The UL Changemakers initiative represents a strategic move to position the University of Limerick as a leader in global research and innovation. Further details about the recruitment campaign are available at www.ul.ie/changemakers.
