UPDATE: The construction of the highly anticipated Laghey Roundabout officially began today, February 16, 2026, with the first sod turned at the R232 Laghey-Pettigo Road turnoff on the N15. This project, funded by the €2.4 million investment from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), aims to boost road safety and reduce accidents in a known high-collision area.

Authorities confirm that temporary traffic management will be implemented on both the N15 and R232, with enforced speed limits of 60 km/h. Motorists are advised to expect delays as construction progresses, but Donegal County Council promises to keep disruptions to a minimum.

Cathaoirleach of the Donegal Municipal District, Mícheal Naughton, emphasized the importance of this project for local safety and traffic flow. “This roundabout will significantly enhance road safety for all users, especially vulnerable road users,” he stated. The initiative follows extensive public consultations and advocacy from local stakeholders, ensuring community needs are at the forefront of the design.

The new single-lane roundabout will replace the existing junction, addressing long-standing safety concerns while improving traffic management in the area. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this year, marking a significant milestone for the community and all involved stakeholders.

As construction commences, local residents and businesses are reminded to stay informed about ongoing developments through Donegal County Council’s updates. The council is committed to maintaining open lines of communication throughout the project duration, aiming to minimize any inconvenience.

In the face of rising traffic volumes and safety concerns, this project is more crucial than ever. The collaboration between Donegal County Council, TII, and local stakeholders highlights a united effort to create safer roadways in Donegal. This is a developing story—stay tuned for further updates as construction progresses.
