Gardaí Arrest Two Men in Major Drug Seizure in Kilkenny

Two men were arrested following a significant drug seizure on the outskirts of Kilkenny City on March 11, 2024. The operation involved approximately twenty members of the Gardaí, along with personnel from Kilkenny County Council and the animal welfare charity My Lovely Horse.

During the coordinated effort, four properties in a residential area of the Hebron district were searched under warrant. Authorities seized approximately €10,000 worth of illegal substances, including €7,000 of suspected heroin and €3,000 of suspected cocaine from one location. The arrested men were transported to Kilkenny Garda Station for further questioning.

One of the men has been charged in connection with the incident and is scheduled to appear in court shortly. The second individual was released without charge, but a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for potential further action.

In addition to the drug seizure, ten dogs were confiscated during the operation due to serious concerns regarding their welfare. This aspect of the operation highlights the multi-faceted approach taken by the Gardaí in addressing both drug-related issues and animal welfare.

Authorities have also noted a rise in reports of anti-social behaviour around St Kieran’s Cemetery on the Hebron Road. In response to these complaints from the local community, Gardaí have increased patrols in the area.
