Peter Mandelson’s Advisory Firm Enters Administration Amid Client Losses
The advisory firm co-founded by Peter Mandelson, known as Global Counsel, has entered administration following a significant decline in client relationships related to Mandelson’s historical connections with convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein. The London-based firm announced that it has ceased trading and that redundancies are being made among its UK staff.
Administrators from Interpath have been appointed to oversee the firm’s operations. Global Counsel indicated that the decision to enter administration was driven by a rapid loss of clients, which severely impacted its financial stability. In a statement, the firm noted that directors were left with no alternative but to bring in administrators due to the overwhelming circumstances.
Will Wright, the UK chief executive of Interpath and joint administrator, commented on the situation, stating, “While Global Counsel had grown over the past 15 years to become one of the UK’s leading public affairs consultancies, the rapid and sudden loss of clients over recent weeks has had a monumental impact on the business.” This loss signifies a crucial turning point for a firm that had established itself in the competitive landscape of public affairs.
In addition, Steve Absolom, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, highlighted the immediate focus on supporting the employees of Global Counsel. “Our immediate focus is on supporting the talented and loyal UK team of Global Counsel employees who, having collectively built a market-leading business, now sadly find themselves having to be made redundant,” he remarked.
The fallout from the Epstein scandal has had far-reaching consequences, not only for Global Counsel but also for its stakeholders and clients. The firm, which had prided itself on its reputation and industry position, now faces an uncertain future as it navigates the administrative process.
As this situation develops, the implications for both the former employees and the broader public affairs sector remain to be seen. The loss of a significant consultancy like Global Counsel raises questions about the impact of personal affiliations on professional reputations and business viability.
