Nestlé Recalls More SMA Baby Formula Due to Toxin Risk
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall of additional batches of SMA baby formula due to concerns over the presence of a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting. This announcement follows a previous recall earlier in the week, highlighting ongoing safety issues with certain products manufactured by Nestlé.
Details of the Recall
The FSAI identified the affected products as batches of Nestlé’s 400g SMA Alfamino formula, specifically batch codes 51210017Y1 and 51700017Y1, with expiry dates of May 2027 and June 2027, respectively. These batches may contain cereulide, a heat-resistant toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. Consumption of this toxin can lead to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including nausea and vomiting, which can manifest within five hours of ingestion and may last between six to twenty-four hours.
In light of these developments, Nestlé has urged customers who have purchased any of the implicated products to reach out to the company directly. As of now, the FSAI has reported no confirmed cases of illness associated with these specific batches.

Parents and guardians are strongly advised against feeding any of the affected formulas to infants or young children. The full list of recalled products includes:

The FSAI continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of food safety and consumer protection. As this issue develops, families are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions regarding their infant feeding choices.
