Neg8 Carbon Partners with Prochem to Advance Carbon Capture Project
Neg8 Carbon, an innovative company focused on carbon capture technology, has entered into an agreement with Prochem Engineering, a consultancy based in Kilkenny, to conduct a comprehensive study aimed at defining the specifications for Ireland’s first full-scale carbon capture system. This significant collaboration, announced on January 16, 2026, marks a pivotal step in advancing Neg8 Carbon’s direct air capture (DAC) technology.
The initial module of this cutting-edge DAC system will be constructed at Neg8 Carbon’s headquarters in Waterford. Once operational, the system is projected to attract and capture approximately 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. This initiative is part of a broader ambition to combat climate change and support industries in reaching their net-zero emissions targets.
Neg8 Carbon specializes in the development of novel electrostatic DAC technology, which is designed to efficiently extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The captured CO2 can be either permanently stored underground or transformed into climate-neutral products, including sustainable aviation fuel. This dual approach not only addresses carbon emissions but also contributes to the creation of sustainable alternatives.
Enhancing Affordability and Scalability
The partnership with Prochem Engineering is expected to enhance the affordability, efficiency, and scalability of the DAC technology. As Neg8 Carbon prepares to deploy its system on an international scale, the collaboration aims to streamline the engineering processes involved in carbon capture.
Dr. John Breen, the Chief Technology Officer at Neg8 Carbon, emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “The 50 tonne per annum unit will serve to validate Neg8’s system as a leading engineered carbon capture technology that will support industries and governments in their drive to net-zero and beyond to negative carbon emissions.” This validation is crucial as the world seeks viable solutions to mitigate climate change.
Michael Kent, Director at Prochem Engineering, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that it reflects a shared commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable engineering solutions. “This collaboration supports meaningful environmental progress and a lower-carbon future,” he stated.
